1. : Neighbors, as I see it

I haven’t posted in a while, but I thought I’d share what my living situation is like.

I live in a program house. I live in a dorm that values African heritage. It’s called Ujamaa.

I have a nice single and the view isn’t too bad.

The bathroom is decent and I have carpet in my room.

I have 7 other people living in this suite.

The Guy living next to me plays either WoW or some other sort of game, yelling “Don’t die Mr. Schmizzles!” every hour or so. He also farts really loudly and frequently.

The guy next to the guy next to me also plays some video game but with his door open. Why? I’m not sure. He has two windows in his room, so I really doubt heat is the issue. Although, he always has his shirt off, displaying his impressive man boobs. He plays his games without headphones and screams at the monitor.

Today I found him lying down on my hall with his laptop, half naked as usual. His door was closed, so I thought he was being sexiled at 3 pm? He was watching TV, without headphones as usual.

Turns out he was locked out for 3 and a half hours. But I couldn’t figure out why he left the room with his laptop, its charger, and without a shirt?

  3. : Solitaire, as I see it

I recently discovered that my phone had solitaire AND it wasn’t a demo game!

It took a good while, at least more than 20 games, to finally win once.

That’s right, it took at least 20 straight losses for me to get one victory.

Then it took another 10+ games to get my second victory. And I don’t think I’ve won ever since…

I admit that there were some games when I neglected to see all the possible moves. Yet there were games when I made all the right moves but end up losing. There were times I lost in three moves or less…

    Do I suck at solitaire???

    yes…

The thing is, I remember I used to win all the time when I played solitaire since Windows 98. (Yeah, way back).

    What happened to me…

So I did what anyone would do when he/she is confused and needed answers…

    WIKI!

Solitaire, also called Patience, often refers to single-player card games involving a layout of cards with a goal of sorting them in some manner… . A version of solitaire known as “magic solitaire” is played by many Hogwarts students.”

and our second favorite version of solitaire, after magic solitaire, is also known as Klondike?

    And the odds of winning?

“For a ‘standard’ game of Klondike (of the form: Draw 3, Re-Deal Infinite, Win 52) the number of solvable games (assuming all cards are known) is between 82-91.5%.[2] The number of unplayable games is 0.25%[3] and the number of games that cannot be won is between 8.5-18%.”

And strangely after reading wiki, solitaire reminded me of life or at least parts of life’s problems.

In Life, there are certain problems that are just unsolvable from the get-go. And sometimes, no matter how much you try, no matter how many right and all the possible moves you make, there are games that cannot be won.

But with solitaire, or patience, the odds are that you’ll win and solve some things.

Unless… You’re playing magic solitaire with Hermione at Brown. Then maybe you just need more magic!!

  5. : Cornell, as I see it

Going to Cornell means a lot to me.

My attending Cornell is one of my fewest personal accomplishments, something I can be proud of!

But Cornell is far more than a college with favorable reputation; it’s almost like my hometown.

But Joe, you and I both know you don’t have a hometown.

True, seeing that I never lived in the same place for more than four years. I think I lived in one place for just nine months too. And between 1st and 6th grade, I moved five times and went to four elementary schools. Then, I went to two middle schools and two high schools. Oh, and I went to three pre-schools. (Ah, and now I’m off to my third college…)

But Cornell manages to somehow enable me to revisit most of my past.

How so? Don’t tell me Cornell actually invented that Back to the Future car!

Maybe, but not what I was thinking.

See, Cornell strangely has some of the friends from my previous schools.

First there is Faheem who was my childhood best friend from fourth grade till he sadly had to move to Oklahoma in sixth grade. I haven’t seen him in eight years…

Then there are some Seoul International School kids like Phillip Ham and Min, and maybe some others, but those two are the ones that only matter anyway.

And finally there is the Tenafly crew: Mary Yoo, Rich Yeom, and John Rhee. (I’m probably forgetting someone important. Sorry!)

Though I have such a flighty past, Cornell is giving me a chance to reunite with the people I’ve missed.

So Cornell isn’t going to be the classic hometown. It’s not going to be that place where I might awkwardly see my childhood crush or where I might get to visit the hill where everyone used to sled on.  It’s not going to be the classic hometown where you’ll see my elementary school bully working in the diner serving you.

But Cornell is definitely the place that has the people who remember my childhood crushes and my sledding buddies. And I’m sure I’ll find somebody that will remind me of the bully working in the cafeteria.

Cornell, as I see it, you’re my hometown.
